This event will start sometime TOMORROW NIGHT (Wednesday). The start time, heat lineups, etc., will be posted on the following link soon: www.sportresult.com/federations/ISU/ShortTrack/?evt=11213100000004As a matter of fact, in the time since I started this post, it looks like ISU is beginning to update that page - they're still showing the Seoul dates, but you should start seeing heat lineups and correct data very soon. It looks like the Ice Network video streaming coverage won't start until later in the weekend (currently showing the start will be in 3 days, 5 hours & 35 minutes) - but you can monitor that at the following link: livemanager.eurovision.edgesuite.net/isu/site/index.htmlYou will need to be a subscriber to watch. Torino is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time; 9 hours ahead of Pacific, so die-hard devotees will need to be on 'graveyard shift' this weekend depending on your time zone - but the next 2 weeks (World Cups 3 & 4) are crucial to determining how many skaters we can enter in the Sochi Olympics!

The schedule and the heats have been posted.
Canadian Team entries, by distance: 1500 m Women: Valérie Maltais, Marianne St-Gelais, Jessica Hewitt Men: Charles Hamelin, Francois Hamelin, Michael Gilday
500 m Women Valérie Maltais, Marianne St.Gelais, Jessica Gregg Men Charles Hamelin, Olivier Jean, Charle Cournoyer
1000 m Women: Valérie Maltais, Marianne St-Gelais, Jessica Hewitt Men: Charles Hamelin, Olivier Jean, Charle Cournoyer
American Team entries, by distance: 1500 m Women: Jessica Smith, Emily Scott, Lana Gehring Men: JR Celski, Chris Crevling, John-Henry Krueger
500 m Women: Jessica Smith, Alyson Dudek, Sarah Chen Men: JR Celski, Chris Crevling, Eddy Alvarez
1000 m Women: Jessica Smith, Emily Scott, Alyson Dudek Men: JR Celski, Chris Crevling, Jordan Malone
There are 42 countries with at least 1 skater entered and almost 200 skaters entered in at least 1 individual distance! There are also 14 relay teams entered for the women and 18 relay teams entered for the men.
The 500m and 1000m will have eighthfinals and the mens relay will have heats, quarters, semis and finals (the women's relay will have the traditional heats, semis and finals).
There should be lots of good racing (hopefully we'll get to see most of it!) but I'm sure that there will be a lot of tired skaters at the end of both weekends.
Racing starts at 9:50am local time, 3:50amEST and 12:50amPST.

Teerit "TJ" Vongkovit and Yoni Subin, two juniors who skate for the Potomac Speedskating Club in Maryland, will be competing in the World Cup 3 in Torino. Both are coached by 1994 Olympic 500m champion Jihoon Chae. TJ is Thai national champion and the runner up in the Junior B Men's category at the 2013 US Age-Graded Championships behind Potomac teammate Shaner LeBauer. This is TJ's second World Cup season, while Yoni Subin is making his World Cup debut as a new member of the Israeli national team. TJ also finished 45th in the 2013 ISU Junior World Championships in Warsaw, Poland in February.
TJ is up against Semen Eliastrov in his 1500m preliminary heat and faces Victor An in his 500m pre-preliminary heat, while Yoni will battle with Team USA's JR Celski in his 1500m preliminary and with Team USA's Jordan Malone in his 1000m preliminary. Both TJ and Yoni look forward to some personal bests and are enjoying the great ambiance and experience of this World Cup competition.
TJ is a junior at the Landon School in Bethesda, MD and is also a talented violinist with the Maryland Youth Classic Orchestra, while Yoni is a sophomore at the Charles E. Smith School in Rockville, MD and lives in Potomac, MD.

sk8erfan - WOW, that's a lot of entries! 0_0 mittel - I've seen TJ skate a few times and only recently realized he was from Thailand. It seems that the longer we watch this sport, we continue to add to our list of non-USA skaters who are near-and-dear! --------------- I'm really excited about these World Cups! Last week I read the process for qualifying teams and skaters toward the Olympic quota. I used the first 2 World Cups as a test case - as if THEY were the Olympic qualifiers. If my understanding of the process was correct, we would have qualified the following: Relay: Both Ladies' & Men's teams 1500M: 2 Ladies and 3 Men 500M: 3 Ladies and 3 Men 1000M: 2 Ladies and 3 Men For the Men, the Individual Distance slots were filled before the Overall slots. For the Ladies, it was reversed. I think there's a stipulation that would then allow for a few more Ladies to be added until they reach the maximum overall number of 120 individuals for Short Track as a whole - but that may be ONLY if the Distance slots haven't yet been filled(?) I think that to feel 'sort of' safe on the quotas for the individual events, we need 3 per gender per distance in the Top 25 in points for the 2 combined World Cups (Top 20 would be even better). If our third skater is placing lower than Top 25, then we have to start worrying about running out of available slots - it really kinda depends on which countries have skaters placing ahead of us. Clear as mud?

World Cup 3 has started - they're racing the Ladies 1500M Prelims now.
Heat 1 - Jessica Smith Heat 5 - Lana Gehring Heat 7 - Emily Scott
Top 3 per heat advance.
Looks like the automatic laps (thru the LIVE button) aren't working for me, so I'm having to go to the [SPLITS] and manually refresh. *sigh* It's gonna be a long night...

Jessica & Lana were second - Emily was 1st. All 3 advance! I'm having some success with the LIVE button after switching to my Safari browser - Firefox just wasn't working, and my IE browser is so out-of-date that it's pointless to try (and I refuse to upgrade). If Safari craps out, I'll try Google Chrome next!
