Just a quick check-in before we leave for the rink. I hope to have more time to elaborate on stuff this evening, but if any of you have specific questions, please post them here and I'll give them top priority this evening when I get back to the hotel.Overall, the team's doing well - nobody got penalties, so with the Repechages as a 'second chance', technically all of our USA skaters are still in the hunt. In Heat 1 of the 500M Prelims, Sung Si-Bak's World Record (40.651) was broken by Vladimir Grigorev with a time of (40.344). In Heat 2, J.R. Celski had a time of (40.502). Had the heats been reversed, J.R. would have held the World Record - for about 5 minutes... And congrats to the Canadians - SMASHING the Men's Relay WR by about 5 full seconds; and Canadian Valerie Maltais, who broke the Ladies' 1000M WR!

She's baaaack! Meng Wang posted the fasted 500 time in her heat. Boy, it would be hard to skate in a Meng Wang heat knowing that there was really only one place available to advance. Victor Ahn! Well well...1st in the B Final....it will be interesting to see where this goes. It's nice to see people from so many different countries out there in the finals. I note Ahn isn't the only Russian. I think they took some of that hard training advice from Jimmy Jang to heart.... Have fun Lori Deb and went to Calgary a few years back and drove up to Lake Louise and Banff....and got snowed on. Deb's from Hawaii so it made a big impression on her. Look forward to your comments.... SusanG

I give up! ISU wins. They made it so hard for me to keep up with the action I'm throwing in the towel. Good luck to our girls and guys. Maybe I'll try again next week.

wow well done JR! New WR and a sub 40s 500m It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! He was chasing the same Russian - Grigorev, who broke the record Friday - the announcer said they were on WR pace, and we knew that if J.R. was able to pass him, the record could be his! Not only a broken record, but an HISTORIC broken record! --------------------------- Another memory I'll always have is that I FINALLY got to see Ahn Hyun-Soo (now Viktor Ahn) skate - AND we got to see him win his first gold medal as a Russian! ;D -------------------------- Here's the link for all of the final results: www.sportresult.com/federations/ISU/ShortTrack/Results.aspx?evt=11212100000011-------------------------- Headed out for our last dinner in Calgary - 'looks like it'll be Italian tonight!

Yes very nice to see Elise with her silver medal. New faces, new teams in the top mix. I'm a little surprised at how well the Russians did...that's new and could potentially be a game changer for the Olympics. Ahn will be 30 in 2014, but looks like he is putting up his usual show....I still contend that he was the greatest skater during his prime years before the injury. It will be exciting to see how he and JR match up. And of course against the Koreans! You can bet there are some choice words going on in THEIR locker room! I recall Ahn's Dad was so mad at the Korean coaches that he punched one in the airport when the team returned fm a WC.
