694 visitors in the past 24 hours - a new record!
(I still think that 1600+ in early Jan was an error in my StatCounter...)

If this Olympic month has taught me anything at all, it's that news comes too fast for me to process in the way I want to handle it! I currently have nearly 500 links 'saved' to my internet favorites - most of which relates to the Olympics, and much of which you'll never see because I just couldn't disseminate it all in a timely manner. Here on ProBoards it's not that easy - it's not like Facebook where the headline, teaser, link, source, and a representative photo just 'pop up like magic'. I won't bore you with the details, but if I see a story that I'd like to share here, it can take me a pretty good chunk of time to present it to you in the way I'd like - especially if there's a photo involved. I'd like to try something new and different. I'm thinking about starting a new thread, something called 'Quickfire' or the like. This particular thread will operate (a little bit) more like a Blog or a News-roll. All I'll do is post the link, give you a couple of words as to what it is (article, photo(s), video, etc), and some keywords as to what threads it relates to (such as Eddy Alvarez; Sochi Olympics; Italy; Comedy Club, Athlete Funding, etc). Call it a 'holding place' where YOU can see lots more stuff - and then I can take my time in choosing if/what/when to move to the skater's threads, etc. Members will be able to comment on this thread - and at my leisure I'll take many of them (along with your related comments), 'dress them up' in my usual format and merge them into the appropriate threads. If you're accustomed to checking the 'Recent Posts', you will see these Quickfire posts there - but you may want to bookmark this new thread as well so that you don't miss anything. This process will allow me to present many more items of interest in less time - hopefully it won't create a hot mess, but time will tell. I'll let you know when (or if) I get this going...

I'm deleting the Quickfire board - not as a 'bad idea', but as an unnecessary one. I'll continue to use the same quick-posting format - it definitely makes it easier to get stuff to you fast if I resist the urge to fine-tune them first. I can still come back and 'dress them up' later, if I have time. But I realize that I can do the same thing on our existing threads - no need for a new one, and I won't have to 'Move' them later.
In thinking it through a bit more, I also believe that posting on one Quickfire thread may discourage our members from following up with their own thoughts and comments - forums can already be confusing, and I don't want to make it any more difficult for our visitors!

I've been MIA for a few days, and may be spotty for the next day or two as well. Our son, his wife and our toddler grandson are moving into our house while they are doing construction on theirs - today was moving day, and we're in a period of adjustment! I'll be back with ya' for World Championships this weekend! Just wanted y'all to know why I haven't been posting...

For those of you who still use our home website (www.Rocker-U.net) as your starting point to access this forum, I need you to know that I'm currently planning to stop the hosting on that site when it expires in late July. It's a lot flashier than BB - but it's also expensive, time-consuming to update, and redundant to what we have here. This Boots & Blades forum has 'blossomed', and is the place that people visit the most - so I can't justify the added expense and time to admin the RU website too. I've paid it precious little attention in the past year or so, so it's time to say goodbye. I'll keep the domain name active, and I'll store the page files in case I change my mind. And maybe someday I can adapt some of the features from the website onto this forum! Anyhow, just wanted y'all to know that if you're currently using RU as a portal to reach BB, you should change your bookmark to the BB homepage: www.therockerforum.proboards.com

I haven't been too active here lately, partly because I'm traveling, and partly because there just hasn't been much news in the ST world. I do still have individual results to post on the skaters' threads for the last few competitions, which I'll get to when I get back home!

Just a reminder - any day now, the Rocker-U.net website will be shutting down (in favor of using this forum for all our purposes): For those of you who still use our home website (www.Rocker-U.net) as your starting point to access this forum, I need you to know that I'm currently planning to stop the hosting on that site when it expires in late July. I was a member of the 'Too Much Fun Club' this spring & summer. JUST NOW finishing up posting individual results/pics from National Age Class Championships (last March in St. Louis) onto the skaters' threads. Next up - Fall World Cup Trials from Sept... 'sorry it's taken so long, but I really was enjoying the off-season! I have to admit it was tough getting my focus back, but World Cup 1 may have done the trick - I promise I'll get caught up before Christmas!

I missed it - on my own forum! As of YESTERDAY, November 25, we've been open to the public for 5 years (since 2008)!!! It's been fun (mostly)!

Just wanted to mention why you're seeing ads on the forum. ProBoards forums are free, but the trade-off is that they have 2 ad banners on your forum (one at the top, one at the bottom). That's how they make THEIR money. There is the option for forum admins to pay $7 per month to make the forum ad-free - and in the past, that's what I've done. However, my credit card on file with ProBoards recently expired, and I chose to not update it - at least for the time being. So... we have ads. Hopefully they're not too distracting, or intrusive - based on the ones I'm seeing, I think they're tailored to what Google, etc., knows to be your own shopping and browsing habits, as is often the case on Facebook and elsewhere. We're all seeing different ones! 'Just wanted to make it clear that I'm not getting any $$$ from this forum by selling advertising!

Lol. What ads? I don't see them. Lucky you! Not sure why you're not seeing them - maybe it's only USA and you're not in USA, eh? The top banner ad would be just above the trio of pictures (the two 'boots & blades' pics with the PyeongChang2018 logo in between)...

Whew! I FINALLY got the World Cup results posted to the skaters' individual threads! (Nothing like sitting in a hotel room for inspiration). I wanted to get these up before this weekend's US Championships competition was over!

Sorry, all... Life is crazy right now, and I don't see it getting anything but crazier in the immediate future! It's all good, just busy - VERY BUSY - with family matters. Our son, his wife, our 2-year-old grandson and their dog have been living with us for the past year while under construction on a new home down the road. We've just added a newborn granddaughter to the mix, and they are within a month of 'moving day'... I plan to eventually catch up with the second half of the season, but I can't make any promises as to when - I'm not even sure (at this writing) that I'm gonna be able to follow the final competitions...

Lori, First of all, congrats on your newborn granddaughter!!! I will see if I can post the results for the World Championship this weekend. I may not always be able to do it in real time but I will try my best.
