I've been somewhat MIA for a couple of days - due to a personal project that I needed to get started on!
The off-season doesn't really exist here at BB - it's simply a chance to do some website housekeeping and reorganization that will (hopefully) make things better next year.
It also gives me the opportunity to go through all of the Google Alerts that I put a 'star' on, but never got a chance to post. I do try to post things in a timely fashion, but a lot of things inevitably fall through the cracks - and summertime is a great time to find 'em again and get caught up. Keep checking back, 'cause there will ALWAYS be 'stuff' going on here over the next few months.
To the skaters: Enjoy a few weeks of GREAT R&R before your summer workouts begin!

Wow - another little 'milestone' for our forum today! It's also the explanation for the ads you'll be seeing over the next few days. Proboards forums are free - for y'all and for me. Part of the trade-off is that Proboards places banner ads on all forums - it's how they make their money. Fair is fair. However, they DO offer me the option to pay a small fee per month to keep this board Ad-Free, and I've chosen to do that. The price is $7 per month for up to 50,000 Pageviews. This evening, I noticed that there were ads on the board, and it's not the end of the month yet! When I checked into the reason, I found that we've exceeded 50,000 Pageviews for the month of March! That's actually pretty cool (even though it means that y'all will have to tolerate some ads for the next few days). It'll go ad-free again when my April payment kicks in on the first.

The Spring Migration has begun...
A few times per year, we shift threads around - and over the course of the next few days, that's gonna be happening.
Skaters who have been inactive in senior-level ST competition for at least a year are being moved to various places on the Alumni Association board (or Long Track, or elsewhere, as the case may be).
At the end of a post-Olympic year, this is particularly hard - 'cause some of our most popular skaters are presently inactive.
I try to keep the Active Skater boards as small as possible, so that no skaters end up on 'Page 2' of their respective boards - 'just trying to be consistent... and fair to all.
If any of the skaters return to competition (such as J.R., who I KNOW will be back eventually, and Jordan, who I strongly suspect will be back eventually), they'll be moved back to the Active boards ASAP.
If any of y'all have status reports on any of the Inactive skaters, please let us know - we'll be fans for life, and we'd love to know where their life paths are taking them!

345 visitors to the forum during a 24-hour period last Tuesday - a new record! (The stats only record unique visitors, meaning if you visit multiple times per day, you're only counted once.)
Not sure why there was that much interest in April, but we'll take it! ;D

Just a heads-up: My internet access will be very sporadic between now and the end of May.
So if y'all see something interesting, please post it, 'cause I may not be able to - thanks!

G'Day, Mates! The reason I've been kind of MIA is because I've been in Australia for about 2-1/2 weeks - we drove with an Aussie friend in a pickup truck from Brisbane to Perth. (A similar orientation in the USA would be from, say, Washington DC to Los Angeles.) It was a great trip, and if I find time, I'll post some of my pics in The Coffee Shop. I'm still a bit jet-lagged, and trying to catch up on things here at home - but I'm finally starting to get my ST 'MoJo' back! First, I'll finish what I started about posting the skaters' results/photos from Wausau on their individual threads - and here & there I'll add a few other interesting bits that came in while I was gone. Over the weekend, I noticed that we set another 24-hour record here - 367 visitors - I'm excited to see what kind of growth we get when the season starts again! As I try to get caught up, I may not be able to comment on the news people posted here while I was gone, but I want to say thanks to dose, mtnme, gasp, sk8er, justsayin, quietpirate, and new member natesmith317 for holding down the fort and keeping things fresh while I was away. When I did have internet access, it was nice to read y'all's posts and feel like a visitor rather than an admin for a change! Love to all! ~ Laura

There have been some updates to the 2011-2012 schedule: therockerforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=trips&thread=763&page=1#8291Also, I've created individual threads for the major 2011-2012 events. Some are still unofficial, and others haven't been announced yet (i.e., American Cups 2 & 3 and US Championships). We'll use these threads throughout the season to chat about the competitions. Please share any information that would be of interest to the group! (Guest posting is enabled)

Very exciting news from Proboards! In the coming months they're launching a new Beta version for Proboards forums, and at that time we'll have an opportunity to convert Boots & Blades to the new format. I'm going to be one of the 'testers' of the new format, so I'll be able to see a sample of what our forum looks like with the Beta version, and practice using it long before y'all see any changes. Many of the new features coming are similar to Facebook (such as a Like button and Notifications), and also an advanced search feature that will be far superior to the current one.

Broken hand = 'hunt 'n' peck' for typing since Aug 12... that, + a week-long camping trip, + not much ST news = a pretty slow month here at BB!
But things will be picking up soon as we gear up for the new season!

Laura, so sorry about the hand! Did you have a bone density scan? I'm scheduled for one next week, but when the doc looked at my x-rays, he said the bones look good - I'm just a colossal klutz...

I just took a look at the 50 most recent posts - much to my surprise, 27 (i.e., more than half) of them were from someone other than ME!
Every time I start feeling burned out, I get some kind of 'message' like this that tells me that maybe it's been worth it.
Kudos to those who've been contributing to the conversation - you have no idea how much I value you.
