For the second time in the past month, BB has received some unusual 'guest' posts in the wee hours of the morning that included a loooooong series of unidentifiable characters.
The first time, I simply deleted the posts. When it happened again last night, I contacted Proboards Support and I was told today that this is from a known Spam-bot.
If this happens again, please ignore the post until I can delete it and block the poster from the forum. Do not click on any part of the post because it may contain links to pornographic sites and/or spyware.
Thanks!

As of today, April 1, 2010, Rocker-U/BB will no longer be following Short Track Speedskating. Our emphasis will now be on the sport of curling. The first order of business will be deciding on a new name. 'Stoned' somehow didn't seem appropriate - how about 'Rocked'? In honor of our new focus, shall we give away a pair of those amazing Norwegian curling pants to one lucky fan? One more thing... Happy April Fools Day!

I just noticed that we set a new record on April 12 for people online at one time - 32! I'm not sure what would have sparked all the interest on that day - we did launch the Skater Appearances Hotline thread, but maybe, just maybe, peeps were checking out the newest Rocker Fund skater : JULIAN WOOD - if you would like to help him achieve his goals in short track speedskating, see his donation information and an 'in-his-own-words' biography at: Current link: www.therockerfund.org/FORMgallery5.htmJulian's permanent link once he is no longer Skater of the Month www.therockerfund.org/FORMgallery4.htm(click on his photo to read his bio) To post well-wishes, news and other info for Julian, see his thread in The Varsity category: therockerforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=varsity&action=display&thread=452

Just so y'all don't think I'm AWOL - I was in 'God's Country' for 4 days, and there 'twasn't an electric outlet or wireless tower for miles. It was wonderfully relaxing - but at the same time, challenging. Soul rejuvenated - body, not so much... It may be a toss-up as to whether the DOG is more dog-tired than I am - we're both fighting for the sofa.

Hi, y'all - just a 'heads up' - between now and the start of the new season you might find the forum in 'Maintenance Mode' from time to time. No worries. I'm just doing some housekeeping and reorganizing. If I take the forum offline, it minimizes confusion (as in: "Where did that thread go - I was looking at it just a minute ago!") The thing I'm currently working on is determining the proper categories for each skater and moving their threads to that category (some have retired, gained Cat 1 status, etc). The Index of Skaters will have a lot of broken links until I finish - and if a thread has been moved, all of the introductory posts may need to be edited. Sooooooo... things might look a little crazy for awhile, but it'll be back to normal soon!On another note: I just noticed the site statistics... we've been active here at BB for about a year and a half - last year at this time we had an average of 19 visitors per day (woe is me ); this year over the past 30 days we've averaged 167 per day - and I'd consider May-June to be LOW months for ST interest! Once again, thanks for checkin' in and being part of our growth!

Hi, y'all! I just got back from vacation about 2 hours ago - my thanks to Geri, Mtnme and Gasp for keeping up the conversations while I was gone! I have lots of catching up to do, and I'm sure there will be plenty of ST news to post as we start the new season, so check back often - it's almost Showtime, peeps!

Hey, y'all! My Sweet Hubby and I are loading the dog, the tent and a cooler into the van for a trip to... I dunno where.
We're just gonna let the weather, the map and our whims guide our path, but we should be back in a week at the latest.
I'll check in when (if) I can, but there aren't many campgrounds with free internet - we're trying to do this 'on the cheap', but I might just have to spring for a Starbucks coffee in trade for internet, lol...

Some news for the BB forum - I finally added up the 2010 stats for daily visitors to the site. We had a huge surge in visitors during the World Championships last March, and it's stayed steady since then, averaging 187 'unique' visitors per day - even through the summer! ('Unique' means that even if you visit 5 times in a day, you're only counted once.) The number is growing - we're averaging 214 per day since AmCup1 last September. If my math is correct, we've had over 57,000 'hits' to the site since March! THANK YOU for visiting - if you enjoy reading, but haven't joined in the conversation yet, PLEASE DO! Whether you know it or not, you're part of our ST community - let us get to know you. Ask questions, chat with us - if you have a favorite skater, give us news about him/her... give 'em a and tell 'em you're watching! Let's do our part to GROW this sport and promote all of the skaters in 2011!

Some news that's kinda cool... US Speedskating featured our "It's America" slideshow in their tribute to the 1-year anniversary of the Vancouver Olympics! Thanks to Joyce for the heads-up on this - I hadn't seen it!

Forum news – we had roughly 300 people per day visiting BB during the Dresden World Cup, and at one point, we set a new 24-hour record of 330! ‘Seems that there are a lot of ‘peekers’ and not so many ‘speakers’ – join the conversation! ;D
