Jordan Malone just posted some new pics apparently Oakley is the latest sponsor of the US Olympic team and I am not surprised I know at least two guys on the ST team and probably more regularly wear Oakleys.

2014 World Short Track Championships in Canada? Hmmm, that might be do-able... The following article is in French, but here's what I've gleaned from Google Translate: Earlier this year, the International Skating Union (ISU) granted the organization of the 2014 World Short Track Championships to Speed Skating Canada (SSC). Four cities in Quebec (Saguenay, Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Montreal) have expressed interest in hosting the event. Other interested Canadian cities are Calgary, Vancouver and Richmond. Here's the link to the article: www.journaldemontreal.com/2012/05/02/le-quebec-interesseCool!

WOW, that's great! What city are you hoping for, Lori? I dunno - for cost-effectiveness and familiarity, Vancouver would be a plus (and I suppose Richmond for its proximity to Vancouver). I'd love for Larry to see Montreal - I was so enchanted with the city that I stayed an extra night... (okay, okay, so it was 'cause I missed my flight, lol!) I've heard that Quebec City is lovely - and I've always wanted to see Calgary... No offense to Saguenay & Sherbrooke - I don't have a frame of reference. If somebody tells me why they're great, I'll have to officially say "I don't have a preference"! How 'bout you?

ISU Communication 1743 lists the leading skaters per distance for each individual country during the 2011-2012 season. I'm posting USA's results, but if you'd like to see other countries, you can find the link to Communication 1743 here (when you open the .pdf, scroll down to pg 17 for short track): www2.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-130127-131435-nav-list,00.html Ladies 500 Meters1) Lana Gehring 2) Alyson Dudek 3) Emily Scott 4) Jessica Smith 5) Katherine Reutter Ladies 1000 Meters1) Lana Gehring 2) Katherine Reutter 3) Alyson Dudek 4) Emily Scott 5) Jessica Smith Ladies 1500 Meters1) Lana Gehring 2) Emily Scott 3) Alyson Dudek 4) Kimberly Derrick 5) Katherine Reutter Ladies 3000 Meters1) Lana Gehring 2) Jessica Smith 3) Alyson Dudek 4) Katherine Reutter 5) Emily Scott Men’s 500 Meters1) Simon Cho 2) Jordan Malone 3) Travis Jayner 4) Kyle Carr 5) John-Henry Krueger Men’s 1000 Meters1) Simon Cho 2) Travis Jayner 3) Jordan Malone 4) John- Henry Krueger 5) Kyle Carr Men’s 1500 Meters1) John-Henry Krueger 2) Simon Cho 3) Travis Jayner 4) Jordan Malone 5) Jonathan Garcia Men’s 3000 Meters1) Travis Jayner 2) Jordan Malone 3) Kyle Carr 4) John-Henry Krueger 5) Chris Creveling

D'ya' wanna start your Tuesday with a S-M-I-L-E? Here ya' go... somebody knows how to put the FUN in training:
Many thanks to Jordan Malone for sharing this link - and to Australian skater Alix Myra-Anderson (training with the team this summer) for taking this video!
I'm pretty sure I'm seeing Jordan, Aly Dudek, Emily Scott, Kyle Uyehara, JR Celski, Alex Izykowski and Landon Hatfield... Corrections? Additions?

I decided I wanted to smile on Wednesday, too - so I watched it again!
This time I think I picked up Alix Myra-Anderson (who shot most of the video), Travis Jayner, Andrea Dehnke, Adam Callister, Jeff Simon - and maybe Kyle Carr (in the orangey-red shirt)?

First it was Rusty's medals, now this? Speed skates stolen from US Olympic teamBy Alex Larrabee / ksl.com / July 20th, 2012 www.ksl.com/?sid=21346079&nid=148&title=speed-skates-stolen-from-us-olympic-teamSALT LAKE CITY — A thief broke into the Utah Olympic Oval overnight and stole several items out of lockers on Thursday. The lockers belonged to members of the U.S. Speed Skating Team and now some of their most valuable equipment is gone. "Speed skates are custom made," said US national speed skater Patrick Meek. "They're made for each individual athlete and as a result they're not easy to produce. They take several weeks in a factory over in Europe to crank out." Due to the custom nature of the skates, they cost around $3,000 a piece, and athletes often do not have insurance on them. This is also bad timing for the athletes, since summertime is when the skaters do most of their training. Tags: Patrick Meek / Short Track Speedskating
